Julia Kenyon is a professional muralist and designer based in Bend, Oregon, transforming blank walls into bold, story-driven art for businesses, schools, restaurants, breweries, universities, and community spaces across Oregon and the United States.

After earning her BFA in Graphic Design from Oregon State University, she discovered her passion for large-scale murals and built a full-time creative career painting vibrant, hand-painted murals that connect people to place and turn every space into a visual experience.

When she's not painting, Julia enjoys exploring Central Oregon, skiing, traveling the world, and recharging at home with her fiancé, two cats, and Doberman.

I’m a mural artist based in Bend, Oregon, and I’ve been running my own creative business since graduating in 2020. I grew up in Oregon and feel really lucky to call Bend home — it’s the best mix of mountains, sunshine, and creative energy.

Most of what I share here is murals, artwork, and the behind-the-scenes of painting giant walls, along with some artist advice and life as a small business owner.

A few random things about me:

I’m a big skier and this year I finally learned how to backcountry ski (terrifying but amazing). I also love hiking.

I love to travel the world, especially with my fiancé.

I’m proudly part of the child-free movement and call my two cats and my Doberman my babies.

And hot pilates is my newest obsession.

My goal right now is to grow this page into a bigger community of creative, curious, outdoorsy, art-loving people!

When I graduated during the pandemic with my degree in graphic design, I had absolutely no idea what I was going to do next.

I always loved painting my room growing up and thought painting large scale murals would be so fun.

But I had no clue how people actually became muralists.

So when I decided that’s what I wanted to do…I basically just started telling everyone I was a muralist.

I posted about it.

I made mockups and shared them online.

I asked friends and family if I could paint their kids’ room if they bought the paint.

I documented EVERYTHING — even the early murals I look back on now and cringe at.

I practiced anywhere I could, including painting murals inside my own apartment. The great thing about paint is you can always cover it up!

Honestly, I just wouldn’t shut up about wanting to be a muralist! And thankfully, the inquiries started rolling in.

That energy led to my first opportunities, which led to the next ones…and now I’ve painted 30+ murals across the United States. Interior, exterior, big, small, everything in between.

Most artists think they need permission to start painting murals.

You don’t.

They make the most UNREAL fish and chips, elite chowder, and now they have a mural to match the energy.

The teen space is thoughtfully built to support creativity and confidence, and I was SO excited to add something that felt fun, grounding, and inviting.

Projects like this remind me why community-centered art matters so much!

Bright, playful, and made to ground the space while still feeling fun and energizing.

This one was truly a community effort. Six different people helped paint it, which honestly made the whole process even better. Creating alongside others and bringing a shared vision to life is my favorite way to work.
